Compulsion (The Heirs of Watson Island, #1) by Martina Boone
This book was rich with energy and an intriguing plot. Set in the south with all the charm of past southern eras, it leads you into magic, mystery, and love. A captivating way to bring the past to confront the present and how to make peace with both. Beautifully written.
Only negative I have about this book is that Barrie is so hard on Eight. She is constantly getting angry with him for being too bossy (which I don't see him being), but then she turns around and does the exact same thing to him, only worse. That was a huge turn-off for me. He is so supportive of her, even when he disagrees with her decisions, and in return, she isn't even really all that nice to him.
That being said, I love the romance, the mystery, the southern magic of this book. I love how Barrie comes to find herself through all the loss she's experienced. She comes out of her mother's shadow to discover who she wants to be herself, what she wants to do with her life, and finds the courage to form new love and friendship.
Great read!
